Harry Reid Should Resign Over Racial Comments, Michael Steele Laugh at Democrat Double Standards

Typical Democrat Double Standards: Michael Steele called for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to step down for racially insensitive comments, even as the RNC Chairman brushed aside talk that he should resign for using an epithet of his own.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday”, Steele condemned Reid for calling then-presidential candidate Barack Obama “light-skinned” and “with no Negro dialect” in private conversations during the campaign. The remarks, Steele stressed, were just as contemptuous as those made by former Majority Leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.), who once praised Strom Thurmond’s segregationist presidential candidacy. And, as such, Reid (like Lott) should be forced to resign from his leadership post.

“I think he should,” said Steele. “There is a standard where Democrats think they can say these things and apologize when it comes from the mouth of their own. But if it comes from anyone else, it’s racism. It’s either racist or it’s not. And it’s inappropriate, absolutely. So if the standard is the one we saw with Trent Lott as leader at the time, then I think this absolutely falls in that category here. … Remember, this is the same leader who just a few weeks ago was talking about health care in the context of slavery. Clearly he is out of touch.”

The follow-up question to Steele’s statement was obvious from the onset. The RNC Chairman, this past week, had been chastised by members of both parties for using the phrase “Honest Injun” to tout the Republican party’s platform. Combined with other gaffes, was this too grounds for resignation?

“No, absolutely not,” he said. “Why should I Chris [Wallace]? I’m pushing the ball. I’m raising the money. I’m winning elections. I have got the base fired up.”

“If [the comment] is [offensive] I apologize for it,” he added. “I wasn’t intending to say a racial slur at all. The reality is that’s not the same as what we were talking about before.”

Steele, of course, has had more flare-ups this past week then just the “Honest Injun” remark. And Wallace pressed him to address several others, including news that he was doing a book tour with the knowledge of his own staff and predictions that the GOP wasn’t ready to win or govern the House of Representatives.

“There is too much focus on me because that’s what Washington wants to focus on,” Steele confessed. “I’m very passionate about what I do. I’m very passionate about winning. … So I bring that to the table. And yeah, I get a little bit hot headed.”

Yawn. I’m not terribly impressed with either one of these guys. For the record, though, Harry Reid has a habit of making offensive, off-the-cuff comments that demonstrate just what an insulated patrician s-c-h-m-u-c-k he really is. Remember his complaint about smelly tourists in DC?

Don’t you just love how repubs (who have disintegrated into nothing — which BTW is being ignored, conveniently, by the MS M) like to tell Dems what to do and how to do it?

I love passive-aggressive tone: “if” it was offensive. Hey Steele-head, there’s no “if”! “Hot-headed”, or empty-headed?

Harry Reid Should Resign Over Racial Comments, Michael Steele Laugh at Democrat Double Standards. Well Mr.Steele going by that measure then the entire republican party and their tea party hooligans should resign for making the most blatant racist remarks.

Steele just wants to get something going. African Americans aren’t as angry about this comment as Republicans are…. hum……. who’s more spurned over this? The Rep. party is trying to get a lot of mileage out of this, but with whom? When the Republican party begins defending Black people against racism and racists remarks, you’d better watch your back.

No it is MUCH better that Reid is saying that a dark skinned person could not get elected especially when that person has a “ne.gro” dialect.. Yes, that is not racist at all, right?……….

How do you feel what Byrd said about serving with blacks in the military: ..
What Steele said is true. Ever notice how it is ONLY ok to use horrible racial insults when the object of the insult does not follow the liberal mantra?
I will prove this: Justice Clarence Thomas Actually racist comments are never “ok”

What Reid said was that the US was ready for a light skinned black man who could speak well, meaning that if it was a dark skinned black man the US POPULACE would have had a harder time accepting him, not reid personally but the US in general.

And BTW Ne.gro is far from a horrible rac.ist insult when black people still write it in as their race on the census. It is an archaic PC term for blacks and was used alongside “colored” as the proper way to describe an african american up until the 60’s when the civil rights movement got going and they didn;t like it because it seemed like a throw back to slavery and the plantations.

As for byrds comments refer to my 1st point, never OK
As for Clarence Thomas i have no idea what you’re referring to

The Democrats are going to lose their majority no doubt come November for the usual reasons, no backbone, no spine and Obama will probably be out for the same reason in 2012, he isn’t about change he is about Obama.

I agree with Michael Steele The Senate and House GOP black members should be outraged and as soon as they meet should sign a petition a petition to call for Reid to resign as soon as they find a phone booth to hold that meeting.

The phone booth would be empty since there are no black GOP members in Congress all. They chased away the last guy, JC Watts. That being said, Sen. Reids comments were not appropriate BUT they were true. White America feels less threatened by a lighter skinned black man than a darker skinned one and one that is very well educated and well versed than one that grew up in an urban environment that may be fluent with urban culture. That is a reality but it was not for Sen. Reid to comment on.

was doing a search and I can’t find ONE current Black Republican Congressperson . . . can ANYONE help name one for me ???

I wonder, would you repubs here like Reid better if he quit and had a book ghostwritten for him?

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Steele has just resigned from the human race – this of course, does not affect his ability to lead the Republican Party.

Much is made of Dems retiring CNN said dropping like flies- a real exxageration but many Repubs have decided not to run as well- anti encumbent fever in the air Dodd and any long timers must go – 25 + yrs is way too long One guy is 92 !!! On public payroll for life

Do cons have to blow EVERYTHING out of proportion? This complaint is pretty funny considering the fact that at least half their party is pandering to a group that had no qualms about holding up pictures of Obama as a witch doctor last September.

Only the most ignorant of ueducated morons would agree with Michael Steel. Reid is corrupt and I am sure the people of Nevada will vote his Searchlight six pack hick ass out of office. People, light skinned and Negro dialect has no racist tone what so ever. I can’t believe this is even an issue. You want racist???? YOU HAVE JACKSON, SHARPTON AND MICHELLE OBAMA…THE MOST RACIST IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICA. OBAMA WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN GIVEN BILLIONS OF MONEY BY GOLDMAN SACHS, FRANK, DODDS, ACORN, ETC IF HE SOUNDED LIKE THE GHETTO RAP CRAP. WISE UP!! WHICH WORD IS THE WORST? NEGRO, LIGHT, DIALECT, SKINNED????? AND LOOK AT OBAMA. HE IS BI-RACIAL BUT RAN AS AN AFRICAN AMERICAN. NOW YOU’RE TALKING RACIST.

Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D-13th), who hosted WVON’s Cliff Kelley Show, challenged the Republican Party to repudiate Lott’s remarks and to call for his resignation as senate leader.

“It seems to be that we can forgive a 100-year-old senator for some of the indiscretion of his youth, but, what is more difficult to forgive is the current president of the U.S. Senate (Lott) suggesting we had been better off if we had followed a segregationist path in this country after all of the battles and fights for civil rights and all the work that we still have to do,” said Obama.

He said: “The Republican Party itself has to drive out Trent Lott. If they have to stand for something, they have to stand up and say this is not the person we want representing our party.”

Massa Harry Reid and Massa Joe Biden like “light-skinnned” and “clear and articulate” “negroes.”

Are the folks on the democrat plantation paying attention to this? These folks are really out of touch with their constituents.

Are we back in the 50’s-60’s with democrats opposing desegregation and civil rights? Sure feels like it.
